Menthol Crystals are colorless prismatic crystals derived from steam distilled peppermint oil. Menthol is a waxy, crystalline substance which is generally white in color and solid at room temperature. Known for characteristic odour, this crystalline substance melts slightly above room temperature. By subjecting the distilled menthol oil to a temperature of -22° C, menthol crystallizes out into solid crystals.
Known for their strong aroma, cooling and refreshing effect, the menthol crystals are generally used in cosmetics containing peppermint to boost its cooling and freshening effects.
Use sparingly due to intense scent, typical use level 0.2-10% depending on application. Add to oil phase or down cool phase of creams 120°F/50°C. For external use only.
Balms, salves, creams, foot products and scalp treatments, cooling gels and cold remedies. Also used in throat lozenges, toothpaste, mouthwash and Skin protectant products (against insect bites).
